Методические рекомендации

После выполнения контрольной работы оформите ее следующим образом: титульная страница (Приложение Б), MS Word, Times New Roman, 14 пт., интервал – 1,5 (в таблицах – одинарный интервал), поля: слева 3 см, справа – 1,5 см, сверху и снизу – 2 см. Вложите работу в скоросшиватель с прозрачной обложкой.

Сдать работу следует за 2 недели до сессии. Если работа не зачтена, выполните работу над ошибками и предоставьте ее на проверку вместе со старым вариантом, не меняя титульный лист.

Задание I. Образуйте, где возможно, множественное число

существительных; переведите на русский язык:

Metallurgy, steel, experiment, half, shampoo, toothbrush, lens, victory, theme, alloy.

Задание II. Переведите на русский язык, обращая особое внимание на притяжательную форму существительных:

1. The country’s richest harvest of apples;

2. The govtrnment’s dismissal;

3. Mr. Bush’s residence;

4. Our students’ reading hall;

5. American presidents’ policy

Задание III. Употребите прилагательное, данное в скобках, в нужной форме (сравнительной или превосходной степени); переведите на русский язык:

1. Mount Everest is the (high) mountain in the world. 2. Sherlock Holmes was the (good) detective in London. 3. Greece is (near) to the equator than Denmark. 4. Tokyo is the (big) city in the world. 5. Books by Somerset Maugham are the (interesting) I have ever read.

 

Задание IV. а) Напишите словами следующие количественные числительные:

0, 8, 13, 12, 20, 42, 30, 111, 1.200, 875.617;

б) Переведите словосочетания на английский язык, употребляя порядковые числительные: первый час, третья тетрадь, второе письмо, четвертая программа, тысячная годовщина, тридцать шестой урок.

Education by Correrspondence

1. Alexander Petrov is an experienced worker. He works at the laboratory of a Research Institute in Moscow. His group designs electrical equipment for fully automatic shops and plants. Still he wants to improve his technical knowledge. That’s why he became a student of the Moscow Institute of Radio Engineering, Electronics and Automation.

2. Alexander Petrov is in his last year now. In autumn he will graduate from the Institute. He will become a specialist in the field of automation and cybernetics. He carries out a large number of experiments at the laboratory and gets numerous consultations from professors and teachers of the Correspondence Institute.

3. There is a wide system of correspondence courses in Russia. A large number of workers and employees combine work with study by correspondence at higher or specialized secondary schools.

4. There are Correspondence Institutes in many regional centres and other big cities and towns.

5. The examination session lasting for two weeks takes place twice a year. During this period students attend lectures on the main subjects, take their exams. They listen to lectures on the subjects of the next academic year. Annually a great number of students graduate from Correspondence Institutes and become highly - qualified specialists.

 

Задание VIII. Письменно ответьте на вопросы по тексту:

 

1. What kind of job is Petrov’s group engaged in?

2. Why did Petrov become a student?

3. Is Petrov a student of the Day or of the Evening Department?

4. How often do students take exams at the Institute?

5. What do the students usually do during the examination session?

Задание II. Переведите на русский язык, обращая особое внимание на притяжательную форму существительных:

1. the systems’ characteristics;

2. the plant’ research laboratory;

3. Mr Waterman’s large output of chemicals;

4. first-year students’ reports in History;

5. Nick’s upgraded personal computer of the latest model.

Задание III. Употребите прилагательное, данное в скобках, в нужной форме (сравнительной или превосходной степени); переведите на русский язык:

1. My fellow students’ lectures are (useful) than mine. 2. I think English is (easy) than French. 3. John Brown was the (bad) sportsman at the competition in skiing. 4. This is the (funny) joke I know. 5. East or west, home is (good).

Задание IV. а) Напишите словами следующие количественные числительные:

50, 78, 2, 511.038, 14, 4.920, 305, 106, 54, 18;

б) Переведите словосочетания на английский язык, употребляя порядковые числительные:

девятый день, пятый урок, сотый ученик, восьмая неделя, двенадцатый месяц, двадцать пятый журнал.

 

Задание VII. Прочтите и письменно переведите текст на русский язык:

 

At the Institute

1. Victor Pavlov is a first- year student. He studies at the Polytechnical Institute. First - year students study mathematics, physics, chemistry, elements of machines, a foreign language and a number of other compulsory subjects.

2. On his working days Victor gets up very early. He lives alone now as his parents work in the Far North and will come back only next summer. After breakfast Victor goes to the Institute by metro. It takes him half an hour to get to the Institute. As a rule the lectures begin at 9 o’clock. Every day he has three lectures or seminars on different subjects.There is a lunch hour after the second class.

3. Victor Pavlov’s Institute is very large. The student body is about 12.000. The building of the Institute houses not only lecture-halls but also laboratories and workshops. The Institute has seventeen faculties on different specialities: metallurgy, engineering, chemistry, electronics, power plant construction, radio engineering, etc.

4. The academic year begins in September. It lasts ten months and ends in June. There are two terms in the course of the academic year. So students take their exams twice a year. During the terms students attend lectures, carry out laboratory tests and do practical work. The course of studies is four years.

5. From the very first many students start independent work in students’ scientific societies. They make a deep investigation of the problems they study, do collective research, and develop instruments and apparatus.

Задание VIII. Письменно ответьте на вопросы по тексту:

 

1. Where does Victor Pavlov study? 2. What subjects do the students take in the first year? 3. Why does Victor live alone? 4. How long does it take him to get to the Institute? 5. What kind of work are the students in scientific societies engaged in?

Задание III. Употребите прилагательное, данное в скобках, в нужной форме (сравнительной или превосходной степени); переведите на русский язык:

1. After the chemical experiment my hands were (dirty) than yours. 2. I find French (interesting) than History. 3. The fascilities of the blast furnace shop are not the (modern) at the metallurgical plant. 4. Alex is the (intelligent) student in our group. 5. Good health is (good) than money.

 

Задание IV. а) Напишите словами следующие количественные числительные:

65, 0, 134, 11, 219, 12.370, 5.129.018, 342, 13.601, 48.

б) Переведите словосочетания на английский язык, употребляя порядковые числительные:

сорок второй день, двадцать восьмой текст, тринадцатое примечание, третья статья, сороковой урок, тысячная плавка.
