VI. Переведите предложения с независимым (абсолютным) причастным оборотом.
Контрольная работа № 3.
Для того чтобы правильно выполнить контрольное задание, необходимо усвоить следующие разделы курса английского языка:
1. Инфинитив: формы и функции инфинитива в предложении. Употребление инфинитива с частицей to и без нее. Инфинитивные обороты (Complex Object, Complex Subject, for-to-the-Infinitive Construction).
2. Причастие: формы и функции причастия в предложении. Независимый причастный оборот(Absolute Participle Construction).
Вариант 1
I. Переведите предложения на русский язык, в скобках укажите функцию инфинитива в предложении.
1. Our task is to obtain a new mixture with new properties. 2. Most materials and their alloys can be machined – some with ease, others with difficulty. 3. He was told to place the workpiece on the spindle. 4. It was difficult to refuse his request. 5. There is every reason to suppose that the new machine-tools will work very well. 6. The science to be closely connected with chemistry is metallurgy. 7. He worked hard not to lag behind the other students. 8. She was always the first to come to the Institute. 9. To cut a long story short, the spindle doesn’t rotate. 10. To understand the importance of this event you should know all the facts.
II. Перепишите предложения, подчеркните «объектный инфинитивный оборот» и переведите предложения на русский язык.
1. We expect the scientist to be involved in this work. 2. We want them to attend the conference. 3. We know metal to conduct electricity. 4. We saw concrete parts to be prefabricated at the plant. 5. The microscope enables very small objects to be examined in details.
III. Перепишите предложения, подчеркните «субъектный инфинитивный оборот» и переведите предложения на русский язык.
1. The lifetime of this equipment is supposed to be 30 years. 2. The results of your exam are likely to be known in a day. 3. He was heard to have left for Canada. 4. This work is said to have been done already. 5. The capacity of this aggregate proves to be increasing by and by from its starting. 6. A lathe is known to be a machine tool for producing and finishing surfaces of workpieces.
IV. Переведите предложения на русский язык, обращая внимание на «предложный инфинитивный оборот».
1. A high energy of activation is necessary for the reaction to proceed. 2. Two years were sufficient for the work to be done. 3. It is very good for this engine to have been repaired before the experiment begins.
V. Определите функцию: A) Participle I; B) Participle II в каждом предложении. Переведите предложения, в скобках укажите функцию причастий.
A. 1. Estimating the quality of an alloy you should think of all its properties. 2. Tools cutting metal should be made of very hard steel and alloys. 3. When I came into the laboratory, a student was pouring some solution into a vessel.
B. 1. When heated, a magnet loses some of its magnetism. 2. Much coal is consumed by an ordinary power station. 3. The substance investigated showed quite interesting properties.
VI. Переведите предложения с независимым (абсолютным) причастным оборотом.
1. Steel being one of the strongest metals, we use it for products where great strength is required. 2. Alloying elements for making steel are nickel, chromium, manganese, nickel increasing strength and hardness of the steel. 3. Two objects having the same temperature, the average energy of motion of their molecules is the same. 4. There are different types of engines, all of them representing the means by which it is possible to utilize the tremendous amount of energy, stored in water, coal, oil, wood and other fuels.
