The Nottingham Trent University

Nottingham Trent is one of the largest universities in the United Kingdom, with approximately 15,400 people studying on over 100 full-time and sandwich courses. The ratio of male and female students is 3:2

The University has 27 departments, grouped into 9 faculties: Art and Design; Business; Economics and Social Sciences; Education; Engineering and Computing; Environmental Studies; Humanities; Law; and Science and Mathematics.

Being large and diverse has many advantages. It attracts students with a wide variety of backgrounds, interests and age ranges, and from all types of educational institutions and employment.

Nottingham is right at the centre of the country. As a result it has students from all parts of the United Kingdom, as well as a growing number of overseas students. This mix is a major strength, because a student will learn from his friends and colleagues, as well as from his organized study.

Provision of high quality accommodation is top priority for Nottingham Trent. Since 1992 the University has committed some £30 million to new building and refurbishment, with the result that it can offer now some of the best student residences in the country. All University accommodation is fitted out to a high standard and most students are housed in single study bedrooms which are often en suite. First year students new to Nottingham have priority to all University managed accommodation. The staff of the Student Accommodation Service are on hand to offer advice and information if necessary.

The Faculty of Humanities offers a wide variety of subjects, including English, History, Geography, French, German, Spanish Sociology, Psychology, Linguistics, Communication and Cultural Studies. Teaching has a great priority, and students have personal tutors, and are encouraged to interact with staff and with each other. Teaching is undertaken through lectures and visiting speakers, work with resident writers, small group discussions, tuition for individual projects and assignments and audio-visual workshops.
