Remember the word order in questions (ASI and QUASI).

Present Simple for routines You use the present simple to talk about routines. example: He gets up at 6.30. She works in Seattle. You form the third person singular (he / she / it) of most verbs in the present simple by adding -s. example: He gets up at 6.30. She works in Seattle. You add -es to do, go and verbs which end in -ch, -ss, -sh, and -x. example: He washes. She goes to school. Verbs which end in a consonant + -y change to -ies. example: carries flies The third person singular of be is is. You often use the contracted form ’s. example: It’s a long day for Annie. The third person singular of have is has. example: She has lunch at school. You form the negatives with the help of the auxiliary do + not example: He doesn’t use public transport There are two types of questions: - with question words: who, what, how, where, why, etc. example:What’s your first name? - without a question word example:Are you married? Do you have any brothers? Expressions of time: inthe morning in the afternoon in the evening atnight before lunch after dinner at about seven o’clock   Adverbs of frequency: never, sometimes, often, usually, always, every day/week etc.

A Work in pairs and find out about your morning routines. What time does your partner do these things?

 

- wake up - get up - get dressed

- have breakfast - go to work

Example: Cecile, what time do you wake up? - I wake up at seven o’clock.

What time do you get up? - At a quarter past seven.

 

Ø Make notes about your partner’s routine.

Example: Cecile – wake up: 7am, get up: 7.15am.

 

B Write sentences about your partner’s morning routine.

Example: Cecile wakes up at seven o’clock.

She gets up at seven fifteen.

 

c Now write a paragraph about your partner’s morning routine. Link the sentences you wrote in activity 8 with and and then.

Example: Cecile wakes up at seven o’clock and gets up at seven

fifteen. Then she…

A Read the text and choose from the sentences A - E the one which fits each gap.

B Then answer the questions.

· How many hours of TV does Brian watch?

· List the TV programmes Brian watches.

· Find two examples of lazy behaviour.

· What do you think a ‘couch potato’ is?

 

COUCH POTATO

 

 

‘When I wake up I don’t get up immediately. I turn on the television and watch the children’s programmes and old movies until about half past ten. (1). For lunch, I have biscuits and a glass of milk, and I watch the news. In the afternoon, I often watch another old film – they’re showing some good ones at the moment. (2) . I like the main news at six o’clock. At nine thirty, if there is a good play ob BBC 2, I switch over and watch it. Then at night I watch more films and I usually switch off the telly at about two o’clock. (3).

I watch TV for sixteen or seventeen hours a day. I also do some exercise every day. (4). I don’t go far, of course. I walk to the wall outside my house. I always take my portable telly and I sit on the wall while the dog walks round in a circle.

Of course, I couldn’t live this lifestyle without a good wife. (5) . We haven’t got much money, you know, but we’re happy. Sit down watch the telly – you’ve got the world at your feet. And in your hand. Great!
