Theme: The Lungs

Lexics: words and word combinations of the theme

Grammar: substitutions of Nouns one (ones), that of (those of)

Aims:

Didactic aims: to form the following components of competence in students:

1. educational (cognitive component):

1. to form students’ knowledge on mastering new words and word-combinations from the text using basic knowledge of the words of Latin origin;

2. to form students’ knowledge on using substituent of Nouns one (ones), that of (those of)

3. practical component (operational component):

1. to form students’ skills on listening (auding) and translating the text with a help or without help of a dictionary;

2. to form students’ skills on extracting necessary information from the text , summarizing and rendering it for communication

3. communicative component:

1. to form listening (auding), reading, speaking, writing skills

2. self studying component:

1. to form students’ habits on working with professional medical supplementary dictionaries in informative sources

2. to form students’ habits on working with grammar references, to gain necessary information

Urgency of the theme:

All medical students must know about the function and structure of the lungs as one of the main organs in the human body (anatomical terms, to provide trinity program of education adopted at KazNMU)

Tasks:

1. to teach students correct pronunciation of new words and word combinations;

2. to teach students to use new lexics in their speech (oral and written);

3. to teach students’ the usage of substitutes of Nouns one (ones), that of (those of);

4. to develop students’ skills on rendering the text and speaking on the theme

 

Procedure of the lesson

Issues to be studied:

1. lexical minimum on the text “The Lungs”;

2. the usage of substitutes of Nouns one (ones), that of (those of);

3. The text “The Lungs”

Methods of teaching:

Performing practical classes, doing lexical exercises, verbal-graphic method, associograms

Means of teaching:

Visual aids, tables, schemes, test tasks, audio-casssette

 

Presentation of lexics

Listening

Look at the list of new words. Listen to your teacher (audio-cassette) practice saying the words. Pay attention to the pronunciation and stress.

 

 

 

 


Speaking

Give antonyms to the following words:

Writing

Writing

Translate the following word combinations:

Respiratory system, respiratory organ, respiratory capacity, pleura covers the lungs, to cover the face with one’s hands, to cover the eyes with one’s hands; the borders of the lungs, the borders of the heart, to extend upward, to extend in all directions; to vary in colour, to vary a diet, to vary the methods of treatment; heavy weight, heavy food, heavy work, heavy industry; a thick layer, a thin layer, in the middle layer; over the upper layer; pale colour; to become pale, the patient was very pale.

Speaking

Give your own examples with new words (word combinations or sentences)
